Everyone produces waste, all people, households and all businesses. Production of waste material is increasing by 3% each year, whilst tough European legislation now in force, demands that we reduce the amount of waste treated by traditional methods. Wales now has to invest in new technologies for the treatment of our waste. These technologies allow for more sustainable waste management practices and will help Wales and the UK as a whole, to achieve its waste minimisation goals. |

In response to the challenges facing the industry and the need to develop increased skills within this sector for Wales, a new ‘MSc’ level module (NVQ level 5) in ‘Waste Treatment Technology’ is being developed in partnership by several leading Welsh universities. The module will equip those involved in the field of waste management or considering a career in this area with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions and provide cost effective innovative solutions for the management and treatment of waste, whilst decreasing the environmental impact of waste production. |

The emergence of these new technologies present outstanding career opportunities in this sector for those people with the appropriate knowledge, skills and training. |
