  Module Content

There are four main subject areas:

How you will study...
Biological treatment of waste and waste water Biological treatment of waste and
wastewater

Explores aerobic and anaerobic
processes, composting of waste and
biodrying.
Cogs representing blended modes working together

The module takes a blended learning
approach. This means using a
combination of computer-based distance
learning with built in self-assessments, and
some traditional campus-based teaching
and assessments. This allows students to
study at times convenient to them and at
their own pace. Video footage showing
laboratory analysis and testing, and fullscale
waste treatment sites will be
incorporated, offering students the best
mix of technical information and learning
opportunities. Detailed case studies will
explore actual working sites in the UK and
abroad.

Thermal treatment and energy from waste Thermal treatment and energy
from waste

Discusses key factors of combustion
science, energy systems and plant
control issues.

  Physio-chemical treatment Physico-chemical treatment
Delivers a broad overview of the main
operations of physico-chemical waste
treatment processes.

  Physical treatment Physical treatment
Analyses the scientific principles of
separation and recovery technologies.
